Via is a global mobility platform transforming transportation through technology. As an Algorithm Developer in the London R&D office, you'll join the core algorithms group responsible for developing and maintaining Via's proprietary algorithms that power production systems serving thousands of daily passengers and clients worldwide.
You will take full ownership of Via's large and complex codebase implementing core algorithms, develop and maintain multiple mission-critical backend services, and deliver immediate impact to the platform's performance—such as significantly improving booking application response times. You'll work closely with DevOps teams, algorithm developers, and researchers to solve large-scale algorithmic challenges.
Key responsibilities include maintaining and improving current algorithms and business logic, developing new technical products and systems, and ensuring the reliability and performance of services that support Via's global transportation network across 50+ countries.
You bring an M.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on backend development experience (Python). Strong software engineering fundamentals are essential: proficiency with git, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure (Kubernetes is a strong advantage). You're a fast learner who can quickly master new concepts, a pragmatic problem-solver who deconstructs complex challenges, and a team player who delivers elegant, simple solutions.
