Salary: USD 175,000 - 205,000 / annual
Anduril Industries is seeking an Air Vehicle Lead to join the Air Dominance and Strike team in Costa Mesa, California. You will lead the mechanical development of autonomous missile systems from concept through delivery, managing a multidisciplinary team of 10–25 engineers while providing hands-on technical contributions.
Key responsibilities include: leading mechanical development of autonomous air vehicles across all phases (conceptual design, detail design, fabrication, flight test); deriving and shaping requirements internally and with external stakeholders; driving system architecture and design solutions to meet performance, rate, and cost targets; conducting hands-on airframe and subsystem design, analysis, fabrication, and assembly; leading design reviews and presenting to customers; visiting vendors and defining test plans; building prototypes, analyzing failures, and transitioning projects to production; traveling to test sites and supporting customer engagement; and providing technical leadership and oversight to the engineering team.
Required qualifications: BS in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or related field; 8+ years of professional aerospace experience; working knowledge of MIL standards and industry best practices; strong experience developing air vehicle conceptual designs and transitioning them to flying, deployable systems; familiarity with aircraft subsystems (aero-performance, stability/control, structures, mechanisms, avionics, propulsion, fuel systems, thermodynamics, electrical integration); experience creating and managing complex vehicle designs in CAD; experience with aircraft sizing tools; knowledge of prototype and production airframe manufacturing (composites and metallics); demonstrated leadership in managing scope, schedules, and cross-functional teams; active U.S. Secret security clearance required.
Preferred qualifications include MS degree, NX/Teamcenter experience, background with air-launched expendable systems, high subsonic/supersonic systems, liquid/solid rocket motors, hands-on manufacturing, low observable design principles, surfacing/OML loft modeling, and competency in engineering analysis (aerodynamics, structural, thermal, electrical).
