Anduril Industries is seeking an Air Vehicle Lead to join the Air Dominance and Strike team in Costa Mesa, California. You will lead the mechanical development of advanced autonomous missile systems from concept through delivery, including initial system layout, conceptual design, detail design, fabrication, and flight test.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead mechanical development of autonomous air vehicles across the full lifecycle
- Derive and shape requirements internally and with external stakeholders
- Drive system architecture and design solutions to meet performance, rate, and cost targets
- Conduct hands-on development of aircraft, airframe, and subsystem detailed design, analysis, fabrication, and assembly
- Lead design reviews and present to customers; visit vendors and define/execute test plans
- Build prototypes, analyze failures, and transition successful projects to production
- Travel to test sites and support customer discussions as needed
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for a team of 10-25 multidisciplinary engineers while contributing individual technical work
Required qualifications:
- BS in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or related field
- 8+ years of aerospace experience in a professional setting
- Working knowledge of MIL standards and industry best practices
- Strong experience developing air vehicle conceptual designs and transitioning them to flying, deployable systems
- Familiarity with key aircraft subsystems (aero-performance, stability/control, structures, mechanisms, avionics, propulsion, fuel systems, thermodynamics, electrical integration)
- Experience creating, organizing, and managing complex vehicle development designs in CAD
- Experience developing and using aircraft sizing tools
- Experience with prototype and production airframe manufacturing methods (composites and metallics)
- Demonstrated leadership skills to manage scope, schedules, deconflict issues, and maximize teamwork
- Must possess and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
Preferred qualifications include MS degree, NX/Teamcenter experience, background with air-launched expendable systems, high subsonic/supersonic systems, rocket motors, hands-on manufacturing, low observable design principles, and competency in engineering analysis (aerodynamics, structural, thermal, electrical).
