Brave is seeking an experienced AI Systems and Performance Researcher/Engineer to shape and improve performance evaluations and optimizations across desktop and mobile platforms. The role involves working on a range of cutting-edge products including browser ML models, novel applications, on-device AI agents, and performance evaluations, while collaborating closely with privacy and security researchers to protect users from AI risks.
You will demonstrate high initiative and deliver high-quality solutions with a disciplined scientific approach. The ideal candidate has a mix of software development skills (Python, C++, JavaScript, Rust) and proven experience implementing data-driven products with a broad understanding of systems and networks. You should be comfortable working in open-source settings and capable of creating and deploying mobile/desktop applications and systems.
Key qualifications include background in AI systems research and performance evaluation, expertise in optimizing and evaluating ML models for on-device performance, and experience with modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, MLX, ONNX Runtime, Core ML, TensorRT). A Ph.D. in computer science is highly preferred, though exceptions may be considered with strong industry experience.
Skills that set candidates apart include ML systems pipelines, open-source projects on mobile/desktop optimization, experience with confidential computing and security/privacy protocols, publication record in premier systems/performance/ML venues, and industry work experience. You should be passionate about protecting user privacy and security, excited by high-value commercial outcomes, and eager to be part of a high-growth startup with global ambitions.
