Mistral is seeking an AI Scientist to advance its mission of democratizing frontier AI intelligence. The company provides full-stack AI solutions—from frontier models to developer tools and applications—partnering with enterprises across finance, manufacturing, defense, healthcare, and the public sector to co-create customized AI systems.
In this role, you will push the boundaries of AI by developing and scaling cutting-edge large language models. You'll collaborate with a global, cross-functional team of scientists, engineers, and product managers to design, build, and deploy models that solve real-world problems across reasoning, code generation, and multimodal applications. Your work will directly shape how AI integrates into daily life and enterprise operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Research and develop novel methods to advance large language model frontiers
- Work across diverse use cases (reasoning, code, agents) and modalities (text, image, speech)
- Build tooling and infrastructure for training, evaluation, and analysis of AI models at scale
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ship AI systems with measurable real-world impact
You should be a highly proficient software engineer with expertise in at least one programming language (Python, Rust, Go, Java, etc.) and hands-on experience with AI frameworks (PyTorch, JAX) or distributed systems (Ray, Kubernetes). Strong engineering competence is essential—you must be able to design complex software and make it production-ready.
Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience training large transformer models in distributed settings, familiarity with the full MLOps stack (fine-tuning, evaluation, deployment), and a strong publication record in relevant scientific domains. However, the company values profile and experience diversity and encourages applications from those who believe they can contribute to Mistral's mission.
