Hula Earth is building a nature foundation model trained on proprietary IoT sensor data, satellite feeds, and bioindicators to create a unified representation of ecosystem state. As an AI Product Engineer focused on Reasoning, you'll own the Insight Chat—a natural-language interface that enables land managers, developers, farmers, and conservation officers to query ecosystems directly. Users can ask questions like "is this site recovering?", "which species moved in?", "is this land compliant?", and "what can I do to increase resilience against heatwaves?"—receiving answers grounded in real sensor data and scientific knowledge.
Key responsibilities include: building retrieval systems over heterogeneous data (time-series acoustic detections, geospatial layers, structured biodiversity records) with full traceability to source; developing grounding and evaluation infrastructure with benchmarks for answer quality, latency, and cost; implementing guardrails that prioritize explainability and citation-back-to-data for compliance workflows; designing agentic workflows that move beyond single-turn Q&A toward multi-step reasoning over complete site histories; and owning features end-to-end from data pipeline through retrieval, LLM integration, and frontend.
You should have 3–5 years of full-stack product engineering experience with strong frontend and backend skills (web technologies fluency required; infrastructure/IaC experience is a bonus). Hands-on production experience building data products and LLM-powered features is essential—RAG pipelines, prompt engineering, vector databases, and model output evaluation/monitoring. You think product-first, develop mental models in data-constrained environments, and are comfortable owning features across the tech stack independently. You use AI tools daily, have strong opinions on AI product quality, and care deeply about speed, correctness, and traceability. Early-stage startup experience is valued. As a person, you have a builder mentality (ship and iterate), experiment-driven mindset, design sensibility, strong communication across disciplines, and genuine curiosity about biodiversity and nature finance. The role is seed-stage, VC-backed, and growing fast—you'll sit at the table for product decisions and direct capital toward biodiversity conservation.
