Faro Health is a Series A life sciences software company that helps clinical development teams orchestrate complex trials with a single source of truth. The company is seeking an IT Manager to own and build out Faro's internal IT function end to end. This is Faro's first dedicated IT hire. You will report to the Sr. Director of Security and Compliance and be accountable for the operational health of all systems that Faro employees use, as well as the IT controls that underpin the company's security certifications (SOC 2, ISO 27001). You will inherit mature tools and a real backlog, with wide latitude to decide how the function is operated, automated, and measured. The role is equal parts operator and builder, with automation as the larger half. Running IT well—provisioning, access requests, procurement, fleet management, and service desk—is the baseline. What distinguishes success is how much of that work you can turn into scripted, event-driven, or self-service processes: joiner-mover-leaver flows that fire from the HR system, access requests that route and provision themselves, license reclamation on schedule, and audit evidence that collects itself. The company would rather you spend a week automating a task than a year performing it. Key responsibilities include: driving automation as the primary lever by identifying high-volume manual work and eliminating it through scripting, APIs, and system integration; building and maintaining automated provisioning, license reclamation, access reporting, and audit evidence collection; expanding self-service capabilities to reduce ticket volume; owning identity and access management across Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID, and the broader SaaS estate; running the IT service desk via Jira Service Management; managing the Mac fleet through MDM; administering core productivity platforms (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Zoom, Atlassian); executing quarterly user access reviews for audit compliance; managing SaaS vendor relationships and software portfolio optimization; owning hardware procurement and device lifecycle; administering cloud account access and IAM policy for Azure, AWS, and GCP; managing DNS, domains, certificates, and web platforms; measuring automation impact through ticket volume and provisioning metrics; maintaining IT policies and runbooks in the QMS; supporting security operations where IT and security overlap; and producing reporting on IT service metrics, fleet compliance, and software spend. You will not have direct reports at hire but are expected to build and lead a team as Faro grows. The pace of team growth depends largely on how effectively you automate the work in front of you. Requirements: 6+ years of experience in IT operations, systems administration, or IT management, with at least 2 years owning an IT function or leading IT initiatives independently. Hands-on experience administering identity platforms (SSO, MFA, conditional access, group-based access control). Demonstrated experience managing a laptop fleet through MDM including zero-touch enrollment, configuration profiles, and patch enforcement. Experience administering Atlassian products (Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence) including permissions, workflows, and service desk configuration. Experience running IT onboarding and offboarding at scale with understanding of timely deprovisioning for security and audit. Working knowledge of SaaS license management and IT procurement including renewal negotiation and spend optimization. Familiarity with IT controls under SOC 2 and ISO 27001 compliance frameworks including access reviews, change management, and evidence production. Strong scripting ability in Python, Bash, or PowerShell, and fluency with REST APIs, webhooks, and workflow automation tools; ability to demonstrate end-to-end automation work, not just tool configuration. Demonstrated track record of replacing manual IT processes with automation and measuring results, ideally including automated user lifecycle provisioning across multiple systems. Comfort with version control and reviewing infrastructure/automation code with appreciation for change control. Comfortable in small team environment owning outcomes end to end. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent practical experience. Ability to be in-office 3 times per week in Sorrento Valley, San Diego. Preferred qualifications: Experience supporting fully remote or hybrid, fully Mac-based workforce. Experience administering cloud tenant access and IAM policy across Azure, AWS, or GCP. Experience with IT or GRC automation platforms (Drata, Vanta, or similar) and connecting IT systems to compliance evidence collection. Experience implementing data loss prevention, device compliance, or SaaS security posture management tooling. Experience in healthcare, life sciences, pharmaceutical, or regulated industries. Relevant certifications (AZ-104, Google Workspace Administrator, Apple Certified Support Professional, ITIL, or similar). Experience in startup or high-growth environment. Experience managing contractor or third-party workstation access and audit.
