Baseten powers mission-critical inference for leading AI companies including Cursor, Notion, Abridge, and Writer. The company recently raised $1.5B in Series F funding and is building the platform engineers rely on to ship AI products at scale.
As an AI Inference Engineer (Forward Deployed Engineer), you will partner directly with customers to architect, build, and deploy high-scale production AI applications on Baseten's platform. You'll own the complete customer journey from initial exploration through production deployment, translating business goals into reliable, observable services with clear quality, latency, and cost outcomes.
This is a hands-on engineering role that blends software development with product management, technical customer success, and solution engineering. You'll develop and maintain production-level systems primarily in Python, design and implement end-to-end Baseten solutions, and optimize AI/ML projects. Responsibilities include working with customers' engineering teams across sales, implementation, and expansion phases; turning vague objectives into clear specifications and well-tested proofs of concept; and owning products and customer projects end-to-end as engineer, project manager, and product manager.
You should have a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field, with 2+ years of professional experience in fast-paced, high-growth environments. Strong Python skills and familiarity with AI/ML pipelines, model development, and deployment are required. Experience building or optimizing AI/ML projects is highly valued. Excellent communication skills, particularly on complex technical topics, are essential.
