Salary: USD 246,000 - 329,000 / annual
Hex Technologies is seeking an AI Engineering Lead to define and scale the AI Engineering function at their agentic data science and analytics platform. This is a people management role where you will build and mentor a world-class team of AI Engineers while staying at the frontier of AI technology.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the strategic direction of AI Engineering as the company scales, with particular focus on LLMs, transformer models, agentic workflows, context management, and agentic evaluation systems
- Hiring, mentoring, and developing an exceptional team of AI Engineers
- Collaborating closely with product and engineering teams to accelerate product capabilities using frontier AI techniques
- Delivering high-performing shared AI infrastructure, including search systems
- Supporting an exceptional developer and research experience for teams working with AI technology
- Staying current with the latest AI technology and pushing the frontier of what's possible
You bring 4+ years of people management experience leading high-performing teams, deep familiarity with modern AI technology and classical ML systems, and a passion for sharing knowledge. You are obsessed with driving business outcomes and delivering customer value. You balance rigorous experimental design with early-stage agility, communicate effectively across functions, and have a proven ability to attract and retain exceptional AI talent.
Hex's product is a web-based notebook and app authoring platform built with Typescript/React on the frontend (Apollo GraphQL, Redux) and Express/Apollo GraphQL on the backend, with Postgres, Redis, and Kubernetes for infrastructure. The role is based in either San Francisco or New York, with an expectation to be in the office at least twice weekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays are main in-person days).
