commercetools is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to own AI capabilities end-to-end in a full-stack role. You will design and build agent loops and orchestration systems, including tool use, structured outputs, business-rule enforcement, and graceful failure handling. Your responsibilities include building integration layers (via MCP) that enable agents to securely call backend systems and business APIs, rendering model outputs into live, streamed, accessible UI via generative-UI protocols, and grounding models in real data through retrieval, embeddings, and feedback loops.
You will treat evaluations as a first-class system, focusing on provable improvement rather than intuition. A core part of your role is taking capabilities from prototype stage to measured, guard-railed production features. This is a full-stack position where backend, frontend, data, and ML are not separate teams but integrated responsibilities you own directly.
You bring 5+ years of shipping production software with 2+ years building with LLMs in production (real users, not demos). You have hands-on experience with UI protocols such as A2UI, AG-UI, MCP-UI, or similar—you've built against generative/agent-driven UI protocols, not just consumed REST APIs. Your technical foundation includes prompt/context engineering, agents, tool use, structured outputs, evals, MCP in Python and TypeScript/Node, React, async patterns, streaming, and observability. You're comfortable with retrieval, embeddings, and SQL. You've shipped full-stack applications to production and owned them end-to-end from frontend through backend to deploy and operate, not handed off at layer boundaries.
The role is hybrid and available in Berlin, Boston, Durham, Munich, London, or Valencia. commercetools powers the next era of autonomous commerce, helping enterprises make smarter decisions, bridge digital and physical shopping, and connect with customers in new ways.
