P-1 AI is building Archie, an AI engineer agent for the physical world designed to operate seamlessly within existing engineering teams. Archie currently operates at the level of a junior mechanical and electrical engineer, equipped with quantitative intuition for product design and the ability to use complex engineering tools alongside human teammates.
The company recently closed a $50M Series A led by NEA, with former GE CEO Jeff Immelt joining the board, alongside AI luminaries from Anthropic and Nominal. The technical foundation includes a custom agentic harness, structured design representation, continual skills learning, and proprietary small custom post-trained models using semi-synthetic training data—creating a deep competitive moat.
In this role, you will work on fundamental systems enabling Archie to reason, learn, and operate in complex engineering domains. Responsibilities include:
- Developing agentic engineering reasoning through structured representation, formal methods, and real engineering design problem-solving
- Building, improving, and maintaining the agentic harness and tool integrations
- Grounding work quality through regular evaluations and testing
- Analyzing production traces to identify failure modes and investigate customer-reported bugs
- Collaborating with research scientists to identify capability gaps, develop custom models, and transition them into core product
- Staying current with new agentic frameworks and bringing promising ideas to production
You should have experience transitioning AI research prototypes into delivered products, deep learning expertise with strong fundamentals in machine learning, LLMs, and agentic harnesses. Fluency in Python and common agentic frameworks (e.g., LangChain) is required. Experience building physical systems—aerospace, mechanical, robotics, or similar—is valued.
