commercetools is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to own AI capabilities end-to-end, from data and model orchestration through to user-facing generative UI. This is a full-stack role where you'll ship and operate production AI systems across backend, frontend, data, and ML—not coordinate across teams, but execute across all layers.
You will build agent loops and orchestration systems with tool use, structured outputs, and business-rule enforcement. You'll create integration layers (via MCP) that enable agents to securely call backend systems and business APIs. You'll render model outputs into live, streamed, accessible UI using generative-UI protocols and ground models in real data through retrieval, embeddings, and closed feedback loops.
Key responsibilities include treating evals as a first-class system with provable improvement metrics, taking capabilities from prototype to measured, guard-railed production features, and architecting solutions that handle model uncertainty with engineering rigor.
You bring 5+ years of production software shipping experience, with 2+ years building with LLMs in production (real users, not demos). You have hands-on experience with UI protocols like A2UI, AG-UI, or MCP-UI. You're fluent in prompt/context engineering, agents, tool use, structured outputs, evals, and comfortable with MCP in Python and TypeScript/Node + React. You have working knowledge of retrieval, embeddings, SQL, async patterns, streaming, and observability.
