Rocket Lab is seeking an Additive Manufacturing Engineer to support the development of directed energy deposition (DED) and hybrid additive manufacturing processes for the Neutron medium-lift launch vehicle and Archimedes engines. Based at Rocket Lab's Long Beach headquarters, you will work within the Additive Manufacturing Engineering and Production organization reporting to the Manager of Additive Manufacturing Engineering. Key responsibilities include developing and optimizing printing parameters for various metallic alloys using DED, EHLA, and hybrid manufacturing methods; creating new and improving existing print programs; providing day-to-day operational engineering support; collaborating with downstream functions to ensure print geometries can be effectively post-processed; and delivering critical feedback during the Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) process. You will work closely with Design and Manufacturing Engineers to specify additive manufacturing approaches and communicate the technical rationale for DfAM requirements. For the Engineer I level, you need a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field, with experience in additive manufacturing of metallic materials, proficiency in DfAM fundamentals, and experience with CAD (Siemens NX or SolidWorks) and CAM programming (Siemens NX or MasterCam). For the Engineer II level, the same educational and software requirements apply, plus 2+ years of hands-on experience with metallic additive manufacturing. Desirable qualifications include a Master's degree in Material Science or Additive Manufacturing; 3+ years in AM process development; experience with LP-DED platforms; robotic programming skills; ability to create technical presentations; and strong problem-solving capabilities with minimal supervision. The role involves occasional exposure to production environments with moderate noise, dust, and fumes.
