In this Underwriter role (hybrid, 3 days in London office), you will be responsible for credit risk assessment and loan decision-making across the SME lending portfolio. Your key responsibilities include:
- Analyze financial data (annual accounts, bank statements, credit reference agency reports) to assess credit risk on a loan-by-loan basis for SME borrowers
- Integrate market, industry, and portfolio insights into credit decisions to enhance loan quality
- Develop deep knowledge of UK SME operations, accounting practices, industry standards, payment behavior, and relevant legal frameworks
- Deliver efficient, high-quality loan application reviews in line with internal standards
- Identify and recommend improvements to systems, processes, and workflows to drive efficiency and capacity
- Mentor colleagues and guide commercial decision-making while maintaining risk management standards
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks, issues, and control weaknesses
- Leverage AI tools to automate complex tasks and identify high-impact use cases for operational efficiency

REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in credit analysis, ideally in SME lending
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills
- Firm understanding of UK accounting standards
- Inquisitive mindset with openness to change and willingness to challenge status quo
- Ability to take ownership of workflow redesign and process improvement
- Competence in identifying high-impact AI use cases and implementing advanced prompting techniques
