Nivoda is a rapidly scaling B2B diamond and gemstone marketplace processing $300M+ in annual transactions, transforming a historically opaque $350B industry. As Trade Compliance Specialist, you'll own the execution layer of trade compliance for cross-border shipments of loose diamonds and jewellery, a newly critical function as the company expands into new markets and product categories.
You'll prepare all shipment documentation and commercial invoices, ensuring accurate retrieval and centralized storage on the platform. You'll apply HTS classifications and country-of-origin determinations (approved by Legal & Compliance) consistently across shipment processes and systems in partnership with product. Day-to-day, you'll manage customs broker relationships, coordinate clearance, review broker performance, and ensure alignment with the classification framework.
Key responsibilities include monitoring duties as part of landed shipping costs, catching unexpected duty outcomes, and filing claims when errors are found. You'll resolve routine customs queries during clearance and ensure import/export declarations are applied accurately. You'll own the duty drawback program end-to-end, acting as the internal point of contact with Livingstone and preparing/validating claims before submission.
Additionally, you'll monitor the US import bond for compliance (critical for business continuity on the largest lane), partner with manufacturers (starting with India) to ensure export documentation supports compliant shipping, and identify duty-saving opportunities through relevant free trade agreements (India-UK, EU-UK, EU-India, UAE-India). As the jewellery business scales into new duty-liable markets, you'll build out trade compliance processes and escalate complex classification or legal interpretation questions to Legal & Compliance.
This is a high-ownership individual contributor role with real autonomy. You'll establish operating rhythms and processes from scratch rather than inheriting an existing playbook. You'll need proven experience in global trade compliance or customs operations with specific track records on US, UK, and EU import/export. Direct experience managing customs broker relationships and shipment documentation at volume is essential, as is experience filing duty drawback or tariff reclaim claims. You must be detail-oriented, process-minded, and comfortable working independently. Strong stakeholder management skills are critical—you'll coordinate external brokers, carriers, and manufacturers alongside internal Legal, Fulfilment, and Ops teams. A commercial mindset connecting compliance work to cost savings and business impact is valued.
