Patronus AI is a frontier lab developing simulation research and infrastructure to accelerate progress toward human-aligned AGI. The team includes former researchers and engineers from Meta AI, Amazon AGI, and Google, with customers including foundation model labs and Fortune 500 enterprises like Adobe. The company is backed by top-tier investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Notable Capital, Stanford University, and notable individuals like Noam Brown and Gokul Rajaram.
As Technical Recruiter, you will own end-to-end hiring for research and engineering roles: building the pipeline, partnering with hiring managers and co-founders to define roles, and closing candidates who have competing offers. This is not a posting-and-inbound role—you will source passive candidates directly from publications, citations, open-source contributions, conference participation, and academic networks. You will develop domain fluency to evaluate technical qualifications independently, read papers and GitHub profiles with credibility, and hold hiring bar in rooms with founders eager to fill requisitions.
Key responsibilities include: managing full-cycle recruiting for technical roles across research, platform, product engineering, and technical program management; sourcing passive candidates using publications and citations rather than keyword searches; partnering with hiring managers to define scope, bar, interview loop, and success criteria; developing technical fluency to evaluate candidates and provide second opinions in debriefs; closing candidates and handling competing offers and negotiations; owning candidate experience end-to-end; using AI aggressively to automate market mapping, research, outreach, and funnel analysis; reporting on pipeline health, time-to-fill, source effectiveness, and offer outcomes; and taking ownership of broader recruiting and People problems as you develop context.
The role requires in-office attendance 5 days per week at San Francisco headquarters.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of full-cycle technical recruiting, including time at a startup where the process did not already exist
- Experience hiring engineers or researchers in competitive markets where every good candidate had other offers
- Demonstrated sourcing ability: can name the last five people you found who were not applying and not on the first page of results
- Technical fluency to read resumes, GitHub profiles, or papers and form independent views before hiring managers
- Strong closing skills: can build value propositions for specific candidates and negotiate comfortably
- Clear judgment about hiring bar and willingness to hold it with founders
- Clean ATS management, honest pipeline reporting, and evidence-based decision-making
- Excitement about AI and commitment to using technology to increase effectiveness
- Exceptional writing skills; outreach is the first impression candidates have
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience hiring PhD-level researchers and familiarity with arXiv, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, and their communities
- Recruiting experience specifically in reinforcement learning, evaluation, agents, or ML infrastructure
- Custom tooling and automation experience (scripts, enrichment) rather than relying on vendors
- Greenhouse ATS expertise
- Genuine interest in AI safety and evaluation with realistic perspective on potential and limits
