Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering empirical earth observation data via a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. As a Technical Program Manager supporting Solutions Development for Defense and Intelligence, you will be the connective tissue between Product, Engineering, and customers, translating big-picture roadmaps into structured execution plans and accountable timelines.
You will orchestrate end-to-end program execution across Engineering, Product, Design, Space Systems, Enablement, and Customer Support to ensure successful releases. Key responsibilities include scoping comprehensive program schedules, breaking down complex requirements into actionable milestones, translating requirements across business and technical stakeholders, identifying and mitigating dependencies and risks, facilitating data-driven decision-making, and communicating progress vertically and horizontally across the organization. You will manage custom customer deployments, support the engineering release train, and drive continuous improvement in processes and ways of working.
Required qualifications: 4+ years of software development or program management experience in SaaS, platform development, or analytics; Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; experience working with cross-functional teams; ability to thrive in ambiguous environments and design scalable processes from scratch; familiarity with the full product life cycle from concept through deprecation; strong analytical and communication skills; comfort explaining analyses to business leaders and discussing technical trade-offs with engineers; ability to balance tactical execution with forward-looking operational improvements.
Desirable experience includes remote sensing, earth observation data, or geospatial systems; working with remote, worldwide teams; growth mindset and rapid learning ability; and exploration of AI technologies to automate workflows and enhance productivity. This is a full-time hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in the Washington, DC or Denver, CO office. The position requires access to export-controlled information and contingent on ability to access applicable EAR/ITAR-controlled materials.
