OpenAI's User Safety & Risk Operations (USRO) team is hiring a Technical Operations Analyst to solve high-impact operational problems at the intersection of safety, risk management, and data analytics. You will work as an experienced individual contributor within the Risk Incubation & Systems group, which builds analytics, automation, monitoring, and decision-support tools to help teams identify risk and scale safely. The role spans emerging-risk detection, operational measurement, workflow automation, quality systems, launch readiness, and decision-support tools. You will partner with operational teams, Product, Engineering, Data Science, Product Policy, Safety, Legal, and Support to identify high-leverage opportunities and build practical systems. Key responsibilities include independently scoping ambiguous operational problems and frontier risks; analyzing large, complex datasets to identify patterns and data-quality gaps; building and maintaining dashboards, monitoring, alerts, and workflow automations; developing systems for detecting and assessing emerging risks with classifier and human-review feedback loops; supporting major cloud deployments by validating data pipelines and safety signals; designing practical quality controls such as sampling plans and golden datasets; using AI and LLM-based tools to improve speed and scale; translating technical findings into clear recommendations for partner teams; and documenting system logic and operating procedures for handoff and maintenance. You should have 5+ years in technical operations, data analytics, trust and safety, risk operations, product operations, or related fields. Strong SQL skills and comfort with unfamiliar datasets, schemas, and data-quality issues are essential. You should have built practical dashboards, tools, or automations and owned them from scoping through adoption. Experience using AI/LLM tools to accelerate workflows while validating outputs independently is important. You understand how to measure technical systems using precision, recall, coverage, and error analysis. You exercise sound judgment in scaled operations and move quickly in ambiguous environments, creating structure without perfect requirements. You communicate complex findings clearly to technical, operational, and leadership audiences. Nice-to-have experience includes trust and safety, fraud, scaled abuse, emerging-risk detection, cloud/enterprise deployments with constrained data access, classifiers and model-quality measurement, Python and notebooks, and designing quality systems involving vendors or distributed teams. Note: This role may involve exposure to sensitive or concerning content. Strong discretion, judgment, and resilience are essential. Hybrid, 3 days/week in-office in London.
