Wealthsimple, Canada's leading financial innovator serving 4+ million customers with $125B+ in assets under administration, seeks a Team Lead for its Anti-Money Laundering (AML) team. You will lead a team of AML analysts responsible for detecting, responding to, and mitigating money laundering and terrorist financing risks across fiat and cryptocurrency transactions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing AML analysts through coaching, 1:1s, feedback, and career development conversations
- Setting team expectations, communicating goals, managing workload prioritization, and adapting to shifting priorities
- Reviewing and approving high-priority or complex investigations to ensure adherence to internal AML policies and regulatory standards
- Monitoring team metrics (case turnaround, QA scores), analyzing trends, and identifying process or workflow gaps
- Utilizing and training the team on blockchain analytics tools (Chainalysis, TRM Labs, Elliptic) and supporting technical troubleshooting
- Acting as a subject matter expert in financial crime, staying current on typologies, regulatory changes, and emerging risks in both traditional and digital asset contexts
- Driving operational improvements by proposing and piloting enhancements to alerts, casework, and risk strategy
- Communicating proactively with stakeholders, escalating issues, and ensuring resolution
- Fostering a learning culture through knowledge-sharing sessions, training support, and growth opportunities
Required qualifications:
- 4+ years AML/CTF experience with 2+ years hands-on crypto AML experience (crypto exchange, blockchain analytics provider, or fintech)
- 1-2+ years team leadership experience managing direct reports in an operational environment
- Subject-matter expertise in AML controls, typologies, and compliance frameworks (FATF, FINTRAC)
- Direct experience conducting investigations and preparing regulatory reports (STRs, LVCTRs, EFTRs)
- Proven track record meeting SLAs, overseeing QA, and driving process improvements
- Proficiency with crypto on-chain analytics tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Nice-to-haves include certifications in blockchain analytics tools or financial crime designations (CAMS, CFE, CFCS), and experience at regulated crypto exchanges or blockchain analytics firms.
