OpenAI Consumer Devices is building next-generation AI products for everyday use. The Systems Integration team is critical to this mission, turning complex hardware-software development into reliable product signals by building shared infrastructure, tooling, and lab environments. As Systems Integration Manager, you will lead the team responsible for device validation infrastructure, test automation, developer tooling, and lab operations. This is a player-coach role combining technical direction-setting with people leadership. You'll build and develop a team of engineers and lab operations professionals while staying close to architecture and systems problems. Key responsibilities include: - Leading and growing the team: hiring, managing, mentoring, and developing engineers and lab operations staff responsible for test infrastructure, automation, device labs, and release validation - Owning validation strategy and release quality: defining systems, processes, release criteria, metrics, and escalation mechanisms; driving improvements in test reliability, failure triage, and regression management - Building scalable test infrastructure: guiding development of stable testing platforms, automated frameworks, hardware-in-the-loop systems, device orchestration, diagnostics, and developer tooling - Scaling lab and fleet operations: ensuring large-scale device fleets, test rigs, lab infrastructure, provisioning, and maintenance remain reliable; developing processes and vendor partnerships for efficient growth - Setting priorities and roadmap: balancing near-term release needs with longer-term infrastructure investments - Partnering across teams: working closely with hardware, embedded systems, QA, reliability, and release teams You'll partner closely with device software, OS, firmware, hardware, reliability, QA, and release infrastructure teams to define validation strategy and ensure test environments scale with the product. This is an opportunity to build the validation foundation early for an entirely new category of devices, shaping systems, standards, and operating models from prototype through launch. Required: experience leading engineering teams in systems integration, test infrastructure, developer tooling, device quality, or hardware-software validation; strong technical background in software engineering, embedded systems, test automation, or systems engineering; extensive background in consumer hardware products. Ideal candidates have successfully operated or scaled automated testing and hardware-in-the-loop environments, use data and quality signals for release decisions, manage engineers while partnering with lab technicians and QA teams, move comfortably between technical architecture and people management, and build strong teams with clear ownership.
