Salary: USD 130,000 - 160,000 / annual

Heron Power is building next-generation power electronics for grid modernization, focusing on solid-state transformers (SST) and battery energy storage systems (BESS). As Systems Integration Engineer for SST & BESS Applications, you will own end-to-end application-specific testing of Heron's SST across three core use cases: AI data center power, utility-scale energy storage, and solar plants. You will bring up hardware in the lab and at pilot sites, write Python-based test automation to drive test equipment and power converters, and debug performance against application-specific requirements including MPPT performance, PPC/EMS/BMS communication, AI load smoothing, and DC protection coordination. You will work closely with the Systems Integration team, which owns the SST platform; you own the applications. Key responsibilities include: owning end-to-end testing of a novel high C-rate battery pack (SuperBBU) with the SST, validating ripple mitigation, backup capability, slew rates, and power-loss profiles; supporting SST and utility-scale BESS integration testing at pilot sites covering EMS communication, black start, grid-forming coordination, and round-trip efficiency; supporting integration testing with commercial SCADA and EMS systems; owning Heron's first pilot deployments by reviewing field performance and identifying feature gaps; writing and maintaining Python test automation; and safely operating power converters, chillers, contactors, and protection hardware. You must have 5+ years of hands-on experience in power electronics, energy storage, EV, grid, or comparable hardware-intensive environments. You need strong DC circuit fundamentals (resonances, parasitics, slew rates, inductive spikes), strong scripting and test-automation skills, working knowledge of power conversion and battery systems (inverters, converters, BMS, DC pre-charge, contactors, protection, thermal loops), comfort with lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, DAQ) and comms protocols (CAN, Modbus TCP), and a scrappy, get-it-done mindset. Nice-to-haves include experience with solid-state transformers, grid-forming inverters, utility-scale BESS commissioning, systems-level testing of power electronics, and circuit/system simulation tools (LTspice, Simscape, PLECS).
