Read AI is hiring a Systems Engineer to own IT and security operations at a growing AI-powered collaboration platform backed by $81M in funding. This role takes full ownership of the IT infrastructure and shares security operations duties with the staff security engineer.
You'll manage the complete laptop fleet lifecycle including procurement, imaging, and OS refresh cycles using FleetDM MDM and Apple Business Manager. You'll administer Google Workspace identity and access, owning user lifecycle, SSO/SAML/SCIM integrations, and access reviews. A major first project involves building automation for onboarding and offboarding across Ravenna (ITSM), Google Workspace, and Gusto (HRIS).
On the security side, you'll triage alerts from AWS and Panther (SIEM), administer phishing simulation and security awareness programs, and answer security questions across the company. You'll also manage office network infrastructure including Unifi networking and support.
The role is explicitly designed as an on-ramp: you'll start weighted toward IT and systems operations, then progressively take on deeper security engineering scope. You'll write real code in Python, Go, or TypeScript to eliminate manual work, use Terraform for infrastructure-as-code, and scope/deliver security and IT tooling initiatives end-to-end.
Required: 3+ years in IT operations or systems administration with real ownership; hands-on MDM experience (FleetDM, Jamf, Kandji, Intune); Google Workspace or Okta identity administration; demonstrated automation ability; AWS familiarity; strong service instincts and security judgment. Must be based in Seattle area and able to work hybrid with in-person support duties.
Nice-to-have: BYOD mobile management, SIEM exposure, phishing platform experience, Terraform/IaC, HRIS integration experience.
