BETA Technologies is seeking a Supplier Development Engineer for Composites to drive performance and capability improvements across the composite supply base. This role is critical to supporting the company's mission of revolutionizing electric aviation through sustainable technology.
Key responsibilities include leading supplier assessments and development initiatives, evaluating supplier capability in composite manufacturing processes (layup, curing, bonding, machining, finishing), and ensuring suppliers meet quality, delivery, and scalability requirements. You will drive resolution of high-impact quality and delivery issues, execute recovery plans, and conduct root cause analysis for composite defects such as porosity, delamination, and cure variation.
The role involves conducting supplier audits and process reviews, including special processes and quality system compliance verification. You will provide hands-on technical guidance to improve yield, throughput, and process control, and support supplier readiness for new product introduction (NPI) including qualification, FAI, and ramp to rate activities.
Cross-functional collaboration is essential—you will partner with engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to manage risk, qualify new sources, and support make/buy decisions. You will monitor supplier performance metrics (quality, delivery, cost) and implement focused improvement actions. As an escalation point for critical supplier issues impacting production or program milestones, you will prepare concise updates on supplier risk, performance, and recovery status for leadership.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent experience), plus 5+ years of progressive experience in supplier development, supplier quality, manufacturing engineering, operations, or supply chain in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments. You must demonstrate experience leading supplier recovery and improvement initiatives, strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality systems, and proficiency with continuous improvement methodologies. Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office is required. Due to export control regulations, applicants must be a U.S. person. Approximately 50% travel is expected.
