Base Power is rebuilding America's electrical grid through distributed battery systems. The Supplier Development Engineer role focuses on scaling supplier manufacturing processes from prototype through full-scale production. You will work directly with suppliers to assess, design, and optimize manufacturing processes while ensuring quality and cost targets are met.
Key responsibilities include: ramping supplier production lines across equipment, staffing, and processes; evaluating suppliers for cultural and operational fit; auditing manufacturing facilities and quality standards; supporting design-for-manufacturability reviews; mapping manufacturing processes to identify capacity bottlenecks; and evaluating supplier investment strategies based on cost analysis.
You'll need a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Physics, or related field, plus 3+ years of supplier industrialization, supplier quality, or manufacturing engineering experience. Preferred background includes consumer electronics, automotive, or industrial sectors. Strong knowledge of multiple manufacturing processes is essential: injection molding, CNC machining, PCB/PCBA, stamping, and assembly techniques. Experience with manufacturing line design and capital cost evaluation is important for assessing supplier investment strategies.
The role requires managing multiple initiatives simultaneously, working effectively across cross-functional teams and with external suppliers, and frequent travel to build strong supplier relationships face-to-face. Base operates as a startup with rapidly shifting priorities, so flexibility and ownership mentality are critical. The Supplier Industrialization team sits at the intersection of manufacturing operations and supply chain, directly enabling Base's mission by ensuring products are built to specification and delivered on schedule.
