Salary: USD 130,000 - 165,000 / annual
Via is transforming transportation through technology, and this role offers the opportunity to build and scale a first-of-its-kind intermodal transit service from the ground up. As Strategy & Operations Principal, you will serve as the on-site operational leader for Via's service in Rochester, managing daily operations, real-time problem-solving, and team leadership.
Key responsibilities include: managing on-site operations and serving as the primary point of contact for drivers, dispatchers, and shift managers; mentoring and developing the on-site team while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture; developing and tracking operational KPIs and metrics to drive continuous improvement; liaising between the on-site team, Via senior management, and external partners; analyzing data to optimize scheduling, resource allocation, and customer satisfaction; ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and company regulations; and building relationships with drivers, customers, community leaders, and local organizations.
This is a hands-on, entrepreneurial role where you'll be "building the plane while flying it." You'll need to be comfortable with high autonomy, rapid decision-making, and adapting to changing circumstances. The role spans operations management, business development, and people leadership.
You should have 6+ years of operational experience, a Bachelor's degree, and 3-5 years of proven team management experience. Ideal candidates are self-starters who thrive in fast-paced environments, communicate tactfully across diverse stakeholders, and are obsessively detail-oriented. You should be a problem-solver who doesn't accept the status quo and can manage multiple priorities simultaneously while delegating effectively.
