OpenAI's Communications team is seeking a Strategy & Operations Manager to help build a new operating model that combines strategic judgment, effective systems, and AI capabilities. This role sits within the Strategy & Systems team, which designs frameworks, tools, and ways of working to help the broader Communications organization focus on high-impact priorities. You will translate strategic priorities into action, leading complex initiatives from conception through implementation. Key responsibilities include designing how the Communications team sets priorities and makes decisions, building AI-forward project management systems that surface risks early and clarify ownership, and creating operating rhythms and planning frameworks that reduce unnecessary coordination overhead. You'll work to translate emerging AI capabilities into practical workflows that eliminate repetitive work and allow team members to focus on high-judgment tasks. You will partner closely with senior leaders, technical builders, and cross-functional teams across Communications, Marketing, Global Affairs, and Product to connect work across organizations and resolve execution gaps. You'll drive adoption of new tools and ways of working, use data and qualitative insights to measure impact, and help create a culture of clear ownership and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of professional experience in strategy, operations, business operations, or program leadership, with a strong track record of working with senior leaders on complex, cross-functional initiatives. You should have led initiatives from loosely defined problems through measurable results, have experience introducing AI tools or building AI-enabled workflows, and bring strong analytical skills. You're energized by rethinking how teams work with AI, can communicate clearly across functions, and are highly organized while maintaining strategic context. This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco (three days per week in office) with relocation assistance available.
