Maybern is building an AI-native operating system for private fund management, serving the $15T private funds market. The company is Series B-backed and NYC-based, founded by top engineering experts with deep fund management expertise.
You will own Maybern's financial model, planning cycle, and operating metrics as the strategic finance partner to the CEO, Chief of Staff, and department heads. This is a strategic finance and FP&A role; the Controller handles accounting, so your focus is analysis and decision-making rather than close work.
Key responsibilities:
**Planning & Forecasting:** Own the company financial model end-to-end, including three-year Base/Downside scenarios and FY28 outlook. Run annual department-level budgets, quarterly reforecasts, monthly finance check-ins with department heads, and headcount planning tied to ARR and capacity triggers.
**Reporting & Investor Relations:** Prepare quarterly board financial packages (KPIs, P&L vs. budget, ARR waterfall, runway, reforecast), run monthly executive finance reviews, and own investor reporting packages, data room baseline, and path-to-profitability narrative as the company prepares for Series C.
**Metrics & RevOps:** Own ARR/CARR/NRR/GRR/CAC/LTV definitions and waterfall methodology. Track CARR-to-ARR conversion, segment P&Ls and gross margin by project and customer, and build the RevOps data layer that feeds ARR accuracy (CARR/ARR reconciliation, fund linkage, order-form booking, billing-forecast tracking).
**Cross-functional Partnership:** Be the finance voice with Sales on pricing, deal structure, and non-standard order-form terms. Partner with Product on ROI gating for new SKUs and product investments.
**Automation & Tools:** Extend the existing AI Finance skill stack and internal dashboards so recurring reporting runs itself, freeing your time for analysis over assembly.
You are a strategic thinker who connects department objectives to business outcomes and helps leadership force-rank bets. You approach finance as workflows and infrastructure, not just spreadsheets. Your models are clean, auditable, and built for reuse. You communicate complex models clearly to non-finance leaders and turn ambiguous data into narrative. You take ownership of ambiguous problems, frame them, build tools, and drive decisions without waiting for specs. You are AI-fluent, using AI tools daily for modeling, analysis, and drafting, with a point of view on where AI accelerates finance work and where human judgment must hold.
**Requirements:**
- 4–8 years of experience spanning investment banking, private equity, or consulting
- At least 2 years in an operating strategic finance / FP&A role at a high-growth SaaS company (Series A–C)
- Fluency in SaaS business models and metrics
- Built KPI infrastructure or dashboards (SQL, Looker, Omni, or similar) rather than only consuming them
- Been the first or sole finance owner somewhere and built the model, budget, and board package yourself
- Partnered directly with a CEO or founder on board materials
- Shipped automation or internal tools that removed manual work from a finance process
**Bonus qualifications:**
- Experience with usage- or AUM-based pricing
- Private markets / fund administration exposure (NAV, waterfalls, capital calls)
- Company-side fundraising or venture debt process experience
- Python or SQL fluency
