Develop Health is automating complex healthcare processes—benefit verification and prior authorization—to accelerate medication access. The company has already helped over 3 million patients and is scaling rapidly after a major funding round, partnering with major pharmacy benefit managers and payers. As Strategic Business Operations Lead, you'll own the operational success of new payer and PBM partnerships post-signature. You'll work real benefit verification and prior authorization cases, identify workflow bottlenecks, and translate operational insights into product improvements for the engineering team. Day-to-day responsibilities include: running complex cases to build team credibility, documenting processes and playbooks as the operational framework is built, managing BPO partner relationships, maintaining queue health and SLAs, and building dashboards and reporting that inform leadership decisions. A core part of the role is spotting manual work that the AI product should automate and bringing those opportunities to product and engineering with sufficient detail to prioritize. You'll report to the Head of Pharmacy Operations and PBM Relations. In the first 3–6 months, focus on running the work, finding and fixing broken workflows, documenting processes, feeding product insights, and building team training materials. Beyond 6 months, you'll own BPO partnerships, capacity planning, operational reporting, queue management, and converting frontline patterns into product and process leverage. Required: 2–4 years in operations (ideally healthcare, health tech, or SaaS), composure under pressure, strong analytical instincts, root-cause investigation habits, and comfort with ambiguity. You'll need to learn the domain quickly—how payer/PBM/provider workflows map to the product, internal escalation paths, and payer-specific nuances around prior authorization and benefit verification. Bonus experience includes hands-on pharmacy benefit prior authorization or benefit verification work on the payer/PBM side, understanding the patient access journey from prescription to dispensing, building support processes and documentation from scratch, and familiarity with AI tooling, BPO workforce management software, or BI platforms. Not a fit if you want to manage a team immediately, prefer to avoid hands-on queue work, need an existing playbook, or want to delegate analysis.
