Lightmatter is a venture-backed hardware infrastructure company that invented the world's first 3D-stacked photonics engine (Passage™) for AI and HPC data centers. The company recently raised $400M in Series D at a $4.4B valuation and is scaling rapidly across all departments.
You will serve as Staff Technical Program Manager for the Hardware Systems team, owning end-to-end program execution across electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering. Your core responsibilities include maintaining integrated schedules across concurrent projects, driving cross-functional alignment with internal teams (SI, PI, SW, supply chain) and external partners (contract manufacturers, PCB/sheet metal fabricators, assembly houses), and managing dependencies from early design through production.
Key scope areas: program coordination and schedule integration; resource loading and capacity planning; material flow tracking (component orders, PCB runs, PCBA/mechanical assemblies); cross-team hardware deliverable dependencies; external supplier management and technical alignment; company-wide program reviews and stakeholder communication; budget tracking for engineering activities, prototypes, and tooling; and establishing lightweight program management processes (status cadences, risk registers, dependency tracking).
This is a hands-on role requiring comfort in design reviews, supplier calls, resource planning discussions, and executive updates. You will thrive in a fast-moving environment where requirements evolve and processes are still being established, bringing clarity and structure to ambiguity. You'll also own program scope outside formal charters—tester boards, demos, lab fixtures, calibration equipment, and internal engineering tools that lack dedicated ownership.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field; 5+ years of program management experience in hardware engineering with direct exposure to electrical and mechanical engineering; demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-workstream programs; strong cross-functional communication and stakeholder management; comfort with hardware development lifecycle (EVT/DVT/PVT gates, NPI phases, bring-up milestones); and ability to adapt quickly when scope, schedules, or engineering realities shift.
