CesiumAstro develops communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We are seeking a Staff Test Engineer to design, analyze, and implement engineering test plans and procedures for board-level electronics products, including power, digital, and RF electronics.
In this role, you will architect test systems, draw insightful conclusions from test results, and participate in design-for-test planning from early product development stages. You will be a core member of the Cesium technical team, responsible for designing and executing tests at prototype, qualification, and acceptance stages. Key responsibilities include planning and executing board-level verification tests (high-speed signal integrity, digital link characterization, power supply performance, temperature testing), designing systems for testing complex integrated hardware and software (phased array products combining radios, computers, and antennas), and writing test software to interface with devices under test and test equipment.
You will develop test requirements for new products, write hardware test plans and procedures, design test architectures including equipment selection and test fixtures, advise design engineering on design-for-testability, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, train technicians and operators, design compliance tests (NASA GEVS standards), evaluate and document test results for stakeholders, guide equipment purchasing decisions, and contribute to lab buildout and management. You will also present engineering design review materials to customers and executive teams, participate in proposal-writing efforts, and have opportunities to design board-level electronics hardware for test systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or similar from an accredited university
- 9 years of industry or university research experience in design, analysis, and implementation of electronic products and/or test systems
- Experience designing and executing test plans for custom board-level electronics
- Hands-on experience with lab instruments (digital oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, vector signal analyzers)
- Programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee, or refugee, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Board-level hardware design
- Aerospace industry experience
- Designing test racks for automated testing
- EMI/EMC test design and execution
- Understanding of RF and mixed-signal hardware (amplifiers, filters, ADCs/DACs, antennas)
