Affirm is hiring a Software Engineer II for the Identity Decisioning team, which builds backend systems responsible for validating consumer identity across all Affirm products while satisfying regulatory protocols like KYC (Know Your Customer). The team partners closely with Product, Compliance, Auth, Fraud, and other engineering teams to deliver transparent financial products that help consumers make purchasing decisions. You'll also support the operations and availability of your team's systems by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues when needed, and participating in on-call efforts. Additionally, you'll contribute to team culture by engaging in growth and development activities, including participation in the interview process. Affirm is a remote-first company, and this role is fully remote for candidates residing in Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan). The company offers a comprehensive benefits package including 100% subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, flexible time off, and an employee stock purchase plan. REQUIREMENTS: - 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer - Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems - Proficiency in Python or Kotlin - Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes - Ability to translate business scenarios into solutions that interact with multiple software components, with strong coding practices (clear, well-tested, extensible code) - Comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging others' code, and providing constructive code review feedback - Demonstrated ownership of personal growth with proactive feedback-seeking from team, manager, and stakeholders - Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with global engineering teams - Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
