ICON is seeking a Staff Structural Engineer to serve as the primary structural engineering authority for the company's building products and systems. This role bridges deep structural expertise with product development, translating complex structural engineering concepts into scalable requirements, rulesets, technical resources, and design workflows that enable ICON's divisions, customers, and external partners to deliver printed structures with precision and confidence. Key responsibilities include: **Structural Technical Authority**: Serve as ICON's primary structural engineering subject matter expert, providing senior-level technical input to technology product teams, divisions, and external partners. Develop and maintain structural engineering requirements, design standards, and calculations as the product portfolio expands into new market types, building uses, and climate zones. Act as the technical escalation point for complex structural questions from cross-functional teams, customers, and development partners. Ensure alignment with applicable building codes (ACI, ASCE, TMS) and coordinate appropriate product testing for code compliance. Interface with the Building Regulatory Affairs team on code compliance pathways. **Structural Product Development**: Own the translation of structural expertise into scalable rulesets, design workflows, and structured technical documentation. Define structural engineering requirements and provide technical input for BuildOS products. Identify gaps in structural product systems and develop frameworks to close them. Maintain a structured workplan for assigned initiatives using Jira and project management tools, proactively surfacing risks and dependencies. Maintain intake from customer support teams for field-surfaced conditions and edge cases, translating patterns into product development requirements. Review and support development of technical content, standard details, and design guidance for customers. Provide deep technical support to consultant teams on R&D projects. Collaborate with ICON's divisions to incorporate field experience and lessons learned into building product development. **Field Engagement & Installation Support**: Represent ICON's structural engineering capabilities in internal forums and external conversations with customers, regulatory bodies, and industry partners. Conduct periodic field visits to installations and partner locations to observe performance, surface product development inputs, and validate design assumptions (typically one to two overnight trips per engagement). **Requirements:** - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline - Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one U.S. jurisdiction - 12 or more years of structural engineering experience; 8 or more years with a Master's degree - Demonstrated experience working across multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced, cross-functional environments - Strong command of ACI, ASCE, and TMS design codes and their application across building types and jurisdictions - Proven ability to translate complex structural engineering concepts into clear documentation, technical guidance, and product requirements - Track record of managing multiple workstreams and driving technical initiatives to completion without close supervision - Proficiency with industry-standard structural engineering tools: finite element analysis software (CSI Suite—ETABS and SAP2000), calculation documentation platforms (MathCAD), Excel-based engineering calculation workflows, and Revit for structural documentation and coordination **Preferred Skills and Experience:** - Graduate degree in Structural Engineering or related discipline - Experience with productized building systems and/or non-traditional construction methods (modular, prefabricated, 3D-printed, or similar) - Exposure to software-enabled design workflows and/or engineering logic automation in a product development context - Experience supporting customer-facing technical engagements in a design-build or AEC technology environment - Background in computational design, numerical methods, or structural programming - Familiarity with sustainability aspects of structural material systems, including embodied carbon and life cycle assessment
