The Merchant Services team partners with clients to drive adoption of Airwallex products and realize their full potential. The team influences revenue growth across the product portfolio and collaborates with sales, strategy, product, and engineering to deliver exceptional customer experiences. Team members serve as technical points of contact and trusted advisors throughout pre-sales, solution design, and API integration phases.
As a Staff Solutions Engineer, you will own the technical pre-sales of complex client engagements, bringing global payments and financial products to life for enterprise partners, shopping carts, and payment gateways. You will translate agreed business requirements into solution designs and actionable plans, orchestrating cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to deliver on time, on scope, and to a high quality standard. You'll provide technical trust and ensure smooth execution from pre-sales through go-live and early optimization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as a trusted technical advisor to customers and internal teams on high-value implementations and expansions, shaping integration approaches, system configuration, and solution design
- Partnering with implementation and account management teams to translate customer requirements into scalable architectures
- Working with sales teams on technical discovery to understand customer systems, data flows, and workflows, and recommending best-fit integration blueprints
- Working hands-on with customers to troubleshoot integration challenges and guide them through complex configuration decisions
- Creating and maintaining internal documentation, playbooks, and lightweight tooling to support integration-heavy use cases at scale
- Channeling customer pain points and integration feedback into Product and Engineering to influence roadmap prioritization
The role is based in New York City with 3 days in office and implementation coverage across the US.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (Business, Finance, Engineering, Information Systems) or equivalent practical experience
- 10+ years of experience in technical pre-sales, managing complex, multi-stakeholder technology or financial services implementations
- 10+ years of client-facing delivery or professional services experience in a high-paced environment (SaaS, fintech, consulting, systems integration, enterprise implementation)
- Proven track record of successfully delivering cross-functional projects with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, including C-level executives, technical teams, and operations
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including ability to lead steering meetings, write clear status updates, and influence decisions without direct authority
Preferred qualifications:
- Hands-on experience working on API-based payments integrations/products
- Experience managing strategic or enterprise engagements as part of a broader account team, including navigating commercial sensitivities while protecting technical quality and scope
- Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment, balancing structured methodologies with pragmatic decision-making
