Robinhood is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the AI Platform & Agentic Apps team, which builds the agent platform powering AI agents across Robinhood's products and services. The team is developing agentic AI at scale in a regulated financial environment, enabling agents to ship code, query data, run operational workflows, and take real actions on behalf of customers and employees.
In this role, you will build and lead a team of engineers developing critical infrastructure for agentic applications. You'll set technical direction on agent orchestration, tool integration, evaluation frameworks, and permissioning for consequential actions—maintaining hands-on depth rather than purely approving designs. A core responsibility is ensuring agents are trustworthy enough to operate in a regulated brokerage environment, which means building eval-gated releases, guardrails, approval flows for money-moving actions, and audit trails in close partnership with Legal, Compliance, and Security teams.
You'll own production reliability for nondeterministic systems running on third-party model providers, establishing SLOs, fallbacks, and driving incidents to root-cause resolution. You'll define and track metrics that matter—task completion, quality, latency, and cost per task—and report progress to leadership. The role requires hiring and growing strong engineers, owning the roadmap and delivery bar for agents serving millions of customers and internal employees, and creating a high-performing culture.
The position is based in Menlo Park, CA with in-person attendance expected 5 days per week.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years managing software engineers, with a proven track record of hiring well, growing people, and shipping products at scale
- Hands-on depth in LLM systems—you've shipped tool-calling agents to production and can critique architecture or eval plans yourself
- Experience running consumer-scale production services: SLOs, on-call, managing dependencies outside your control
- Judgment in ambiguous, fast-moving spaces—you turn conflicting input into a focused roadmap with measurable goals and cut scope to hit them
- Direct, clear communication with engineers, product, and executives; strong writing skills and ability to earn trust across functions
