Okta's Device Identity and Access organization is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the macOS engineering team. This is a high-visibility, hands-on role focused on architecting, building, and scaling critical macOS software and services at the heart of Okta's security and identity platform.
You will act as a key technical leader and force multiplier, setting technical standards, mentoring and coaching engineers, and partnering with engineering leadership and product management to translate strategic business objectives into actionable, scalable technical roadmaps. The role bridges deep client-side platform engineering with massive-scale distributed systems, securing millions of enterprise endpoints globally.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner with Product Management, Engineering Directors, and Principal Architects to translate business objectives into technical roadmaps
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, and QA on critical engineering initiatives
- Lead design and implementation of new features and services from conception to deployment
- Mentor Staff and Senior engineers, guide technical design reviews, and raise the engineering bar across the pillar
- Establish and maintain high technical standards through rigorous code reviews, comprehensive automated testing, and modernized CI/CD pipelines
- Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation and foster knowledge sharing
- Work within an AI-native engineering environment, leveraging AI coding assistants to accelerate delivery
- Spearhead technical innovation by identifying emerging industry trends and prototyping solutions

REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of progressive software development experience with proven track record of designing and building macOS (or iOS) features using Swift
- Deep expertise with macOS (or iOS) software environments, including design, performance optimization, and security considerations
- Proven expertise in advanced debugging and performance optimization using Xcode, LLDB, and Instruments to resolve complex memory issues and concurrency bugs
- Experience in fast-paced agile environments with strong understanding of CI/CD and automated testing
- Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and influence technical direction
- Proficiency in leveraging AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development lifecycle
- Cross-platform context with strong conceptual understanding of macOS (or iOS) security features
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
NICE-TO-HAVES:
- Security domain expertise such as cryptography, endpoint security concepts (Secure Enclave, Device Management/MDM protocols, endpoint detection)
- Understanding of Identity and Access Management protocols and technologies (FIDO, OIDC/OAuth, modern authentication frameworks)
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, secure coding practices, and certifications like CISSP or Security+
