Addepar is a global data and AI platform serving 1,500+ firms across 60 countries, managing nearly $10 trillion in assets. The Files Platform team builds distributed systems powering secure file storage, access control, and third-party integrations for wealth management firms.
In this Staff Software Engineer role, you will architect and maintain backend services managing file storage, permissions synchronization, and third-party integrations at enterprise scale. You'll design event-driven systems for real-time permission propagation across Addepar's financial graph and external storage providers, ensuring compliance with strict revocation SLAs. You'll collaborate with product managers, engineers, security, and compliance teams on sensitive data access control projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting, implementing, and maintaining backend services for file storage, permissions, and integrations with well-designed, testable code
- Designing event-driven systems for real-time permission propagation meeting compliance SLAs
- Contributing to migration efforts (FileVault to Box, webhook consolidation, folder structure evolution) with zero-downtime rollouts
- Mentoring other engineers and promoting engineering best practices
- Exploring AI-powered capabilities for intelligent file processing and automated metadata extraction
- Evaluating emerging third-party file platform capabilities
This role tackles challenges at the intersection of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and enterprise-scale access control. You'll design solutions scaling from small advisory firms to the largest wealth managers globally, working on idempotent event-driven pipelines, infrastructure handling bursty workloads with strict latency SLAs, and complex authorization and data access problems.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of professional backend software engineering experience
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or similar technical field
- Experience with server-side languages (Java, Python, or C++)
- Experience with relational databases (MySQL, Postgres, SQL Server)
- Ability to complete complex projects involving partners across multiple teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bonus: Experience building scalable cloud infrastructure on AWS
- Bonus: Working with File System vendors
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring current or future visa sponsorship (no H-1B, F-1/OPT, or similar); must be authorized to begin work on first day
