Salary: CAD 181,000 - 241,000 / annual

Affirm's Identity team is mission-critical to the customer checkout experience. The Identity team owns KYC, user lifecycle management, and identity decisioning across multiple regulatory environments outside North America, playing a key role in Affirm's international expansion. In this Staff-level backend engineering role, you will set technical strategy for your team on a year-long time scale and help execute critical, business-impacting projects. You will collaborate across product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and manage risks and trade-offs. You will act as a force-multiplier for your team through definition and advocacy of technical solutions and operational processes. You will own your team's operations and availability by ensuring proper monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting are in place to support on-call efforts. You will foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards, advocating for them across the organization through writing and tech talks, and developing talent on your team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example. This is a remote-first role open to candidates residing in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan. New hires will be invited to attend an in-person onboarding experience. Requirements: - 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin - Extensive track record developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes - Experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecating existing functionality through technical and execution planning - High-quality code that is easily understood and used by others - Ability to thrive in ambiguity and move from low-level language idioms to large system architecture - Demonstrated growth and impact trajectory showing mastery of gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers - Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with global engineering teams - Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
