Scopely, a leading video game and interactive entertainment company, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Playgami team in Barcelona on a hybrid basis. Playgami is building a world-class SaaS gaming platform that powers award-winning, beloved franchise games across mobile, web, and PC platforms.
In this role, you will lead complex technical work from design through implementation and operation, producing maintainable code, comprehensive documentation, effective tests, and reliable releases. You will set technical direction for complex features and systems that run world-class games at scale, making clear trade-offs between player experience, delivery speed, and long-term system health. You'll raise standards across teams by improving delivery, performance, reliability, scalability, and security through sound design and production feedback.
You will partner with colleagues in product, data, design, and other disciplines to clarify ambiguous problems, align decisions, manage dependencies, and deliver meaningful outcomes for the business. A key part of this role involves mentoring engineers, sharing knowledge, and helping colleagues succeed beyond your immediate team.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong computer science and engineering fundamentals, including system design, data structures, algorithms, and concurrency
- Deep experience with Java, C#, or another object-oriented language, including asynchronous and parallel programming
- Track record of designing, shipping, and operating complex production systems with high-quality, maintainable code
- Ability to lead across teams and disciplines through influence, communicate decisions clearly, and work constructively
- Product engineering mindset, sound judgment under ambiguity, and a habit of learning and improving
BONUS:
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP
- Experience with low-latency, high-volume distributed systems or large-scale data technologies
- Experience with modern web frameworks such as React or Angular
