Plaid is seeking a Staff Product Manager to lead the expansion of non-bank data into the Plaid network. This is a 0-1 role where you will define and execute Plaid's multi-year strategy for data supply beyond traditional banking data—including property tax, merchant/SKU-level purchases, utilities, tax, and payroll.
You will own the strategic and operational decisions around which new data types to pursue, whether to build, buy, or partner for each, and will ship Plaid's first non-bank data offerings within your first year. Starting with a small team of 2-3 engineers, you will set quality and completeness standards for unfamiliar data types, build internal business cases, and define metrics for measuring supply expansion success.
Key responsibilities include:
- Setting multi-year strategy for non-bank data supply aligned with product and customer needs
- Building and executing a one-year plan with measurable momentum and impact
- Force-ranking new data types and owning the business case for each (including recommendations against)
- Making and defending build/buy/partner decisions with data partnerships, corporate development, and legal teams
- Shipping Plaid's first non-bank data offerings as internal insights or customer-facing products
- Partnering with engineering and data teams on taxonomies, quality controls, and coverage metrics
- Defining and reporting supply expansion metrics to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
Plaid powers financial connectivity for millions of users across thousands of companies (Venmo, SoFi, Fortune 500 firms, major banks) and covers 12,000 financial institutions in the US, Canada, UK, and Europe. The company was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in New York, Seattle, Washington D.C., Raleigh, London, and Amsterdam.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience, including 5+ years in product management or equivalent founder/operator roles
- Analytical rigor: comfort working directly with data, cost models, and operational metrics to make and defend complex decisions
- Deep technical fluency: ability to reason about large-scale systems, load management, API platforms, and machine-learning models; capacity to engage engineers as a close product partner
- Platform and systems thinking mindset: design for reuse and long-term impact
- Leadership, stakeholder influence, and communication: comfort working cross-functionally (engineering, data, product) and influencing without direct authority; ability to explain complex technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders, drive alignment, and make trade-offs clear
