Commure is building an AI Operating System for healthcare that spans the full care journey: Ambient AI and dictation to eliminate documentation burden, intelligent agents automating patient and revenue workflows, and autonomous RCM processing billions in claims. The company serves 500+ healthcare organizations, 500,000+ clinicians, and processes $25B+ in annual claims. Commure recently raised $70M at a $7B valuation and was named to Fortune's Future 50 list and the 2026 AI Breakthrough Awards for "Overall NLP Company of the Year."
You will own the design agenda for a healthcare domain spanning multiple interacting workflows and product surfaces. This is a hands-on creative leadership role where you'll turn ambiguous clinical and operational problems into a clear design agenda, shape product direction with business partners, and lead design from discovery through launch. You'll set creative direction for your domain, turning user insights and product strategy into compelling concepts and coherent interaction models. Through mentorship and clear communication, you'll help experienced designers and cross-functional partners strengthen their design judgment.
Key responsibilities include: owning the design agenda for a domain and identifying the most important opportunities to improve user and business outcomes; shaping product direction and roadmaps by synthesizing user research, customer needs, business priorities, and technical constraints; setting and carrying creative direction through concepts, prototypes, and narratives; building deep understanding of users and their work through on-site observation and workflow testing; staying hands-on from concept through launch with clear interaction models, refined interfaces, and realistic prototypes; creating durable patterns and shared approaches that improve coherence across teams; and aligning people around clear decisions using design briefs, workflow maps, and compelling narratives.
The design team operates like a studio, using realistic prototypes and AI-assisted workflows to explore ideas and test assumptions. You'll partner closely with product, engineering, and operations to turn understanding into better healthcare workflows. The role is based at Commure's headquarters in Mountain View, CA, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and occasional travel to client sites for field research and direct user engagement.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Track record of domain-level ownership: led complex, end-to-end product design with impact across multiple workflows and teams, with demonstrated ability to define the problem, shape direction, and stay accountable through delivery and iteration
- Creative vision grounded in product judgment: ability to move beyond incremental improvements to imagine better ways of working, with portfolio demonstrating how you established direction, inspired others, and carried strongest ideas into shipped experiences
- Exceptional interaction and visual craft: ability to simplify complex workflows without losing essential detail, demonstrating strong information architecture, clear interaction models, thoughtful visual hierarchy, and attention to accessibility, edge cases, and error prevention
- Strong research, framing, and systems thinking: ability to turn incomplete information and conflicting requests into actionable insights, build deep domain expertise, and reason about how users, business operations, and technical systems interact
- Influence beyond your own execution: demonstrated ability to align cross-functional partners, mentor experienced designers, and improve quality or effectiveness of work across teams; ability to build trust, challenge assumptions constructively, and help others make sound decisions
- Clear writing and compelling storytelling: ability to frame problems in design briefs, articulate domain-level vision, and explain decisions to design, technical, business, and customer audiences
- Applied experience with AI-assisted design and prototyping: proficiency with tools such as Figma and AI-assisted development environments to explore concepts and build realistic prototypes, including code-based prototypes when appropriate; demonstrated ability to use these workflows to improve learning, quality, or speed while critically reviewing outputs
- Ownership and sound judgment under ambiguity: proactive identification of work that matters, prioritization of competing workstreams, clear communication of commitments, and ability to balance speed with quality; genuine curiosity about healthcare and judgment to work in a high-trust environment
