Salary: USD 170,000 - 200,000 / annual

Harbinger is an American commercial electric vehicle (EV) company developing innovative medium-duty EV and hybrid platforms. The company brings together deep expertise in EV, battery, and drivetrain systems to address a market gap in commercial vehicle electrification. In this Staff Mechanical Engineer role, you will lead the design and development of key powertrain systems covering both electric and internal combustion technologies. You will break down complex technical challenges into manageable components and mentor junior engineers in delivering solutions. A core responsibility is setting technical standards and establishing best practices for the team in areas such as FEA, design guidelines, and hand calculations. You will support in-service products by leading failure investigations and cost-down exercises, ensuring manufacturing quality and consistency while supporting production ramps and supplier transitions. The role requires delivering high-quality independent work and communicating complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences across the organization. Key responsibilities include: - Lead design and development of powertrain systems (electric and IC) - Mentor junior engineers and establish technical best practices - Support in-service products with failure analysis and cost optimization - Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams - Manage production ramps and supplier changes - Communicate complex technical concepts to multi-disciplinary teams Requirements: - Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent - Minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience in mechanical design - Proven ownership of multiple powertrain systems from concept through production in automotive - Demonstrated experience with Electric Drive Units (EDUs) and Internal Combustion engines - Deep understanding of powertrain manufacturing processes - Proficiency in 3D CAD systems (CATIA preferred) - FEA expertise (stress analysis, thermal simulations) - Design experience with rotating components - Strong communication skills and track record delivering complex projects with multi-disciplinary teams under deadline pressure
