Salary: USD 166,000 - 220,000 / annual
Anduril Industries is seeking a Staff Industrial Engineer to join the Manufacturing Technology Maritime Team, responsible for designing and optimizing advanced AI-driven factories for large-scale autonomous maritime systems. This is a hands-on, high-impact role focused on production system design, discrete-event simulation, and manufacturing optimization.
You will develop and maintain discrete event simulation models and critical chain schedules that drive production planning for Anduril's advanced AI factory. Using simulation and modeling tools, you will visualize production systems, identify bottlenecks, and optimize resource allocation—translating analytical insights into actionable production control decisions. You will also integrate technology into daily workflows by writing scripts and building automated processes that increase team throughput and decision speed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design plant and equipment layouts, material flow paths, and space allocation for a new maritime factory
- Build capacity plans and rate models (units per year) with sensitivity analysis
- Sequence operations and workflows: break builds into stations, identify parallel work, and optimize unit positioning and dwell time
- Develop discrete-event simulation models as the primary validation method for capacity before physical construction
- Design and optimize the production system by integrating design, supply base, facilities, equipment, and personnel
- Feed the precedence network that the dynamic scheduling system (LOKI) plans against
- Provide technical direction on production system design across VCS and Megalodon build processes; set the method and guide execution
- Issue requirements to architecture/engineering firms and outside consultants, and review deliverables
- Conduct trade studies at design review: building configuration, bay allocation, automation degree, station count
This role requires strong Operations Research fundamentals and the ability to apply simulation, optimization, and scripting to real manufacturing problems at scale. You will work on cutting-edge defense hardware including deployable static and moving surface, undersea, and sea-to-air vehicles.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years in production system design, factory design, or manufacturing engineering for large complex products, including at least one program where you owned the capacity or rate commitment
- Demonstrated capacity or rate modeling: you have built the model, defended the number, and been held to it
- Comfort with simulation or quantitative modeling (FlexSim, Simio, AnyLogic, Plant Simulation, or Python)
- No degree required; Anduril hires on demonstrated capability. Apprenticeship, Navy Nuclear Power School, military experience, trade background, or self-taught modeling all count
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, operations research, manufacturing engineering, systems engineering, or related technical field
- Shipyard or aerospace final-assembly experience: stage of construction, module breakdown, pre-outfitting, erection sequence
- Greenfield or major-expansion factory work
- MES/ERP fluency (Forge, Odoo, SAP, Solumina, Oracle)
