Town is an applied AI company building a persistent assistant that learns from users and takes action across their everyday work tools (email, calendar, docs, Slack, CRM). The company recently raised $55M Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz.
You'll be Town's first TechOps Engineer, reporting to the Head of Engineering. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role owning workplace technology and compliance operations for the San Francisco office.
Key responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain office infrastructure: networks, Wi-Fi, conference rooms, and shared technology. Troubleshoot issues directly and coordinate vendor resolution.
- Manage the employee technology lifecycle: device procurement, inventory, setup, endpoint management, repairs, and secure offboarding.
- Administer identity and access systems: Google Workspace, Slack, 1Password, and workplace systems, including provisioning, access reviews, and removal.
- Drive vendor relationships and workplace projects: manage IT vendor renewals, procurement, and coordinate technology for office moves and buildouts.
- Run compliance operations: operate SOC 2 calendar and Vanta, collect evidence, coordinate audits, maintain recurring controls, vendor-risk reviews, and drive remediation to completion.
- Support customer trust: coordinate security questionnaires and enterprise reviews, maintain trust materials and control documentation, and work with internal teams on accurate answers and commitments.
- Build operational efficiency: create clear queues, inventories, and runbooks. Use integrations and automation to reduce manual work and maintain visibility on priorities, deadlines, and ownership.
You'll work in person in San Francisco's Financial District, five days a week, partnering closely with engineering, security, and legal teams.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience across technical operations and workplace technology, with hands-on responsibility for compliance or GRC execution.
- Demonstrated knowledge of workplace technology: networks, Wi-Fi, conference rooms, endpoints, identity systems, and SaaS administration, including employee onboarding and offboarding.
- Experience supporting SOC 2 or continuous compliance: operating controls, collecting evidence, working with auditors, and tracking remediation.
- Ability to troubleshoot independently using admin consoles, APIs, logs, device settings, and network tooling.
- Strong written communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to explain technical and compliance issues to employees, engineers, auditors, customers, and vendors.
- Ownership mindset: prioritize independently, document decisions, verify outcomes, and exercise sound judgment about escalation to security, legal, or other decision-makers.
- Comfort with hands-on detailed work and in-person collaboration.
