Bobyard is automating construction takeoffs and estimates using computer vision and NLP. The company raised a $35M Series A led by 8VC and is growing rapidly in a multi-trillion-dollar industry where contractors still estimate by hand. In this role, you will own the architecture of Bobyard's core platform spanning React, Django, and PostgreSQL. You'll set the technical bar for engineers building on the platform and tackle the challenge of handling huge construction drawings, dense estimates, and computer vision output that contractors verify line by line—all while maintaining performance as the product scales. Key responsibilities: • Own end-to-end platform architecture: APIs, data models, frontend, and infrastructure • Make architectural decisions that scale to 100x current usage and document them clearly • Lead cross-functional initiatives with computer vision, product, and design teams from scope through launch • Ship complete features yourself across the full stack • Establish and enforce standards for code review, testing, and performance • Operate production systems on AWS and GCP, reducing operational overhead • Mentor engineers and raise the hiring bar for the team The environment moves fast with shifting priorities as the company learns from customers. Playbooks, context, and requirements are often incomplete when work starts, and you'll be expected to shape them. Requirements: • 8+ years building and running production web applications from frontend through infrastructure • Deep experience with React and Python backend development (Django preferred) • Demonstrated ownership of system architecture that scaled to significant usage • Track record leading technical direction across teams and mentoring engineers • Strong product judgment; you understand the "why" and protect scope • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent education and specialized experience) Nice to have: • Experience with canvas-heavy or data-dense interfaces • Early or founding engineer experience at a startup • Exposure to construction or other real-world industries
