You will join as a Staff Software Engineer focused on New Markets in the APAC region. This is an individual-contributor role with no people-management responsibilities. You will architect and ship mission-critical brokerage and platform services, partnering with global teams and representing engineering for Singapore stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
**Technical Architecture & Delivery:**
- Architect and ship scalable, mission-critical brokerage systems using gRPC microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, and vendor integrations
- Advance the core platform for multi-region, multi-currency, and regulatory contexts globally
- Own API quality, performance, and operational readiness for regional workloads
**Technical Leadership & Mentorship:**
- Mentor engineers and raise the technical quality bar through design reviews, pairing, and engineering standards
- Partner with recruiting on regional hiring and interviews
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and engineering culture across Alpaca
**Operational Excellence:**
- Act as a senior escalation for incidents affecting regional stacks; improve monitoring, alerting, and incident response
- Participate in on-call as appropriate for the team's coverage model
**Stakeholder Collaboration:**
- Work with Product, Compliance, and local stakeholders on Singapore and regional requirements
- Collaborate across time zones with US and other regional engineering teams
**Requirements:**
- Strong backend engineering in Go or equivalent, with distributed systems experience at scale
- Staff-level impact demonstrated through architecture ownership, cross-team technical leadership, and mentoring
- Financial services, fintech, or brokerage exposure with understanding of trading lifecycle, settlements, and regulatory awareness
- Excellent English communication and comfort working with regional and global stakeholders
