Andercore is an AI-native supplier of industrial materials and goods for energy and infrastructure, executing trade and distribution end-to-end at the speed of compute. The industrial procurement market in Europe alone is €900B, with 95% of customers lacking direct access to global supply chains. Andercore has built an alternative: the company buys from global sources and sells to European customers on its own account, with AI running the full trade cycle (sourcing, quality, pricing, sales, logistics, credit, financing). The company operates across seven European markets, has an 80+ person team across Berlin (HQ), London, and Shanghai, and has raised $90M in equity and debt including a $40M Series B. As a Staff Engineer, you will own the hardest technical problems and set architecture across teams, focusing on speed, reliability, security, and observability—critical for a trading business where order values are high and prices change daily. You report to the VP Engineering and work closely with Senior Product Engineers, QA, and product managers. The role remains hands-on: you write code, review designs, and raise the bar for everyone around you. Key responsibilities include: setting technical direction across teams through RFCs and target architecture; leading the hardest technical work from design to production; shaping the carve-out of the transaction core from Salesforce into a modern, modular system with a migration path that never disrupts daily trading; making reliability, security, and observability core to how the team builds; designing how AI agents act safely on money-touching paths with evaluations, guardrails, audit trails, and human review; setting standards for correctness and data integrity including idempotency, validation, and testing; and mentoring engineers through design reviews, pairing, and feedback. In the first six months, you might design the architecture of the pricing engine to scale with growing assortment and markets, lay out the target architecture for moving the transaction core off Salesforce, and build the observability and incident setup to catch problems before customers notice them. Tech stack: Java 21 and Spring Boot 3, Python, LangGraph and LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini), PostgreSQL, Kinesis, AWS with Terraform, GitHub Actions, TypeScript with Node.js, Next.js and React, and Salesforce (being migrated away from). REQUIREMENTS: - At least 8 years of experience building and running software in production, including systems where errors cost real money - Deep backend expertise at production scale in Java or comparable language (Kotlin, C#, Go), with willingness to work in Java and Spring Boot - Track record of setting architecture across several teams through influence rather than management title - Experience designing transactional, distributed, and event-driven systems with strong focus on correctness, failure modes, and performance - Hands-on depth in reliability, security, and observability; experience leading incidents and postmortems - Experience in a fast-growing company with track record of solving business problems, not only technical ones - AI as part of daily work; experience building or evaluating AI agents in production is a strong plus - Experience with re-platforming or carving out systems from platforms like Salesforce or ERP is a plus
