Lambda is building the superintelligence cloud, serving tens of thousands of customers from AI researchers to enterprises and hyperscalers. The company's mission is to make compute as ubiquitous as electricity and democratize access to superintelligence.
As a Staff Electrical Engineer for Low Voltage systems, you will own the electrical design standards and reference architectures for low-voltage systems supporting Lambda's high-density AI infrastructure. This is a company-wide technical leadership role with significant scope and influence across the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning electrical design standards and reference architectures for low-voltage systems in high-density AI infrastructure
- Leading design from transformer secondary through switchgear, UPS systems, distribution equipment, busway, and rack-level power delivery
- Developing architectures for 480V and 415V AC systems serving GPU clusters and supporting infrastructure
- Defining requirements for low-voltage switchgear, switchboards, UPS systems, static transfer switches, PDUs, RPPs, busway, rack PDUs, grounding, metering, and monitoring
- Modeling equipment loads, GPU power behavior, transient demand, harmonics, redundancy, capacity, and electrical failure domains
- Developing and reviewing single-line diagrams, panel schedules, equipment specifications, sequences of operation, and basis-of-design documents
- Evaluating greenfield, retrofit, and partner-provided designs for reliability, efficiency, maintainability, constructability, cost, and schedule
- Performing or overseeing load-flow, short-circuit, selective-coordination, arc-flash, voltage-drop, and power-quality studies
- Coordinating electrical requirements across data center facilities, mechanical systems, HPC architecture, hardware engineering, construction, and operations
- Supporting equipment selection, factory testing, construction sequencing, commissioning, integrated systems testing, and root-cause investigations
- Traveling to project sites, manufacturers, and partner facilities as needed
The role requires presence in the San Francisco or San Jose office 4 days per week, with Tuesday designated as the work-from-home day.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience designing low-voltage electrical systems for data centers, mission-critical facilities, or large industrial environments
- Understanding of low-voltage distribution, UPS topologies, switchgear, busway, grounding, rack-level distribution, and electrical monitoring
- Understanding of redundancy models such as N, N+1, 2N, distributed redundant, and catcher architectures
- Ability to develop and review single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, coordination studies, and commissioning documentation
- Experience with ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or comparable electrical analysis software
- Understanding of applicable electrical and safety requirements, including NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NETA standards
- Ability to translate IT equipment requirements into safe, scalable, and maintainable facility designs
- Clear communication skills across engineering, construction, operations, vendors, and executive stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent practical experience
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with hyperscale, colocation, HPC, or AI data centers
- Experience delivering power to high-density GPU racks or liquid-cooled computing infrastructure
- Familiarity with dynamic GPU loads, power transients, harmonics, rack-level monitoring, or power-capacity optimization
- Experience supporting factory acceptance testing, commissioning, integrated systems testing, or failure investigations
- Experience in Low Voltage (400, 800V DC) Converters, distribution and protection devices
- Experience with PSCAD, other EMT simulation tools, or System Stability Analysis
- Professional Engineer licensure or progress toward licensure
