GetYourGuide is seeking a Staff Economist to lead the newly formed Marketplace Economics team, which focuses on answering critical questions about marketplace growth and design. The team works directly with leadership across Marketing, Pricing, and Supply to inform some of the company's largest strategic decisions.
In this role, you will serve as a technical lead for pricing and supply economics, and a core contributor to marketplace measurement work. Your responsibilities include:
- Owning the economics of pricing end-to-end: estimating travel demand and willingness to pay, building structural models to generate defensible price recommendations for supply partners, and running experiments to validate them.
- Collaborating with other economists on paid marketing optimization problems across channels, geographies, and funnel stages.
- Contributing to marketplace design, including commission structures, incentive mechanisms, inventory coverage, and supply liquidity.
- Partnering closely with business leads in Marketing, Pricing, and Supply by translating commercial questions into rigorous identification strategies that drive business outcomes.
- Setting the technical bar for empirical rigor across GetYourGuide by raising experiment design quality and mentoring analysts and data scientists.
The team employs advanced causal inference methods (experimental design, natural and quasi-experiments, double machine learning, synthetic controls) for marketing attribution and incrementality analysis, alongside structural modeling to reason about equilibrium outcomes and simulate counterfactuals.
You will report to the Director of Marketplace Economics and work in a hybrid model with three days in-office collaboration (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) and two days of optional remote focus time. The role offers flexibility to work from anywhere globally for up to 30 days per year.
Requirements:
- PhD in Economics or a closely related quantitative discipline with strong applied focus.
- 5+ years of applied work post-PhD, including 2+ years at a marketplace or platform company.
- Expertise in structural work: discrete choice and demand estimation, equilibrium and counterfactual simulation, and industrial organization or market design toolkit.
- Deep expertise in causal inference: experimental design, difference-in-differences, synthetic control, regression discontinuity, double/debiased machine learning, and Bayesian approaches to media measurement.
- Strong judgment in selecting appropriate methodologies and communicating what each approach can and cannot support.
- Strong Python and SQL skills with comfort working with production-scale data alongside data engineers and scientists.
- Track record of analysis influencing business decisions.
- Excellent written and spoken English and strong stakeholder communication skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- Pricing, demand estimation, or revenue management experience in a two-sided marketplace.
- Market or mechanism design work in production (matching, ranking, allocation, or incentive systems).
- Experience working alongside ML and data science teams and shipping methods into production systems.
