Sidecar Health is transforming health insurance by making excellent healthcare affordable and accessible. The company is seeking a Staff Data Analytics Engineer to build the data foundation that product teams depend on.
In this individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Director of Business Analytics, you will embed with Product teams and own the complete journey from raw data to trusted metrics. You'll design data models, build pipelines when necessary, define success metrics for product work, and identify gaps in data collection. The tech stack is Snowflake-first, with AI tools like Claude and Snowflake Cortex to accelerate development—with your judgment to validate outputs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and maintain dbt models and semantic models in Snowflake for reliable product metrics
- Build data pipelines from ingestion through transformation, aligning with data engineering on shared standards
- Create AI-ready data with semantic models, metric definitions, and documentation for Cortex and CoWork agents
- Guide data design decisions with Product and Engineering on what data is captured, structured, and modeled
- Partner with product managers to translate roadmap goals into measurable success metrics
- Identify and resolve data collection gaps with Product and Engineering teams
- Provide analysis to inform product decisions, including statistical work like experiment readouts and significance testing
- Use AI coding tools and Snowflake Cortex to accelerate development, reviewing and validating outputs before deployment
- Build compliance into designs, including HIPAA considerations and role-based/row-level access controls
- Review SQL, dbt, and AI-generated code for correctness and raise technical standards
- Document models, metric definitions, and design decisions for team knowledge sharing
The role operates in a regulated healthcare setting where privacy and compliance are foundational. The data environment is complex but modest in volume with limited history, giving you the opportunity to shape the data model early.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of experience in analytics or data engineering (or closely related role) building and maintaining data models and pipelines
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related technical field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Strong SQL and dbt skills, including incremental models and testing
- Hands-on Snowflake experience, including semantic modeling
- Commitment to data quality with experience building tests and monitoring
- Experience working with product teams to define metrics and scope ambiguous problems
- Fluency with AI coding tools like Claude, with judgment to use, build, and validate AI-generated code
- Comfort working in regulated environments with privacy and compliance requirements
- Ownership mindset and end-to-end thinking from raw data to trusted metrics
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical partners
Nice to have: Snowflake Cortex or CoWork agents experience, statistics and experimentation knowledge, healthcare/claims/insurance background with HIPAA familiarity, Python for pipelines, Fivetran or ELT experience, Tableau or BI tools.
