Canva is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Build Platform team, which maintains fast and reliable builds for thousands of engineers across the organization. This role focuses on developing self-service infrastructure and developer tools that empower engineering teams to work more efficiently at scale.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing self-service infrastructure from the ground up to improve engineering team efficiency
- Working across CI/CD, build systems, test frameworks, and cloud providers to support Canva's scaling engineering organization
- Collaborating with product engineering teams to roll out build-related best practices and tools across all services
- Designing, building, and optimizing developer workflows for building, testing, and deploying a monorepo architecture
- Participating in solution design meetings, hiring interviews, and code reviews
- Improving and maintaining internal developer experience platforms
The Build Platform team manages a large-scale Bazel monorepo and is scaling remote execution infrastructure to remove compute bottlenecks. The roadmap includes rethinking how Bazel represents target platforms, deepening IDE integration, and reworking the frontend build pipeline with native WebAssembly support. This is systems engineering with significant leverage—every improvement ships to thousands of engineers daily.

Requirements:
- Passion for developer tools and build systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or GoLang
- Experience maintaining and improving large monorepo build infrastructure (Bazel experience is a bonus)
- Willingness to resolve complex build and runtime errors
- Ability to guide and mentor team members
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in technical and non-technical contexts
- Collaborative mindset and team-oriented approach
